Kitchen Sink Sprayer Hose Replacement

A faulty kitchen sink sprayer hose can be a frustrating problem. A leaky hose can waste water and damage your cabinets, while a kinked or clogged hose can make it difficult to use your sink. Fortunately, replacing a kitchen sink sprayer hose is a relatively simple and inexpensive repair that you can do yourself with a few basic tools.

Tools and Materials You'll Need

  • New kitchen sink sprayer hose
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Plumber's putty
  • Bucket or bowl
  • Rags

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Turn off the water supply to your kitchen sink. There should be two shut-off valves under your sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water.

2. Disconnect the old sprayer hose. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nut that connects the sprayer hose to the faucet body. Be careful not to overtighten the nut, as this can damage the faucet.

3. Remove the old sprayer head. The sprayer head is usually held in place by a small screw. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw and then pull the sprayer head off the hose.

4. Apply plumber's putty to the threads of the new sprayer hose. Plumber's putty is a sticky substance that helps to seal the connection between the hose and the faucet body.

5. Screw the new sprayer hose onto the faucet body. Hand-tighten the nut as much as you can, and then use the adjustable wrench to tighten it further. Be careful not to overtighten the nut.

6. Reattach the sprayer head. Screw the sprayer head onto the hose and tighten it with a screwdriver.

7. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. Open both shut-off valves under the sink to turn on the water. Check the connections for leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the nuts further.

Tips

  • If you have a hard time removing the old sprayer hose, you can use a pair of pliers to grip the nut.
  • If the threads on the faucet body are damaged, you may need to use a thread sealant to create a watertight seal.
  • If you are not comfortable replacing the sprayer hose yourself, you can call a plumber to do it for you.
