How Do You Fix A Leaky Sink Faucet

A leaky faucet is a common household problem that can waste a lot of water and increase your water bill. Fortunately, it is usually a relatively easy fix that you can do yourself. Here are the steps on how to fix a leaky sink faucet:

1.

Gather your tools.

You will need a few basic tools to fix a leaky faucet, including a wrench, a screwdriver, and a pair of pliers. If you do not have these tools, you can purchase them at a hardware store.

2.

Turn off the water supply.

Before you begin working on the faucet, you need to turn off the water supply. This will prevent water from leaking out of the faucet while you are working on it.

There are usually two water supply lines under the sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. To turn off the water supply, simply turn the handle on the water supply line clockwise until it is completely closed.

3.

Remove the aerator.

The aerator is a small device that is attached to the end of the faucet. It helps to create a more even stream of water and reduce splashing. To remove the aerator, simply unscrew it by hand. If the aerator is stuck, you can use a pair of pliers to loosen it.

4.

Remove the handle.

The handle is held in place by a screw. To remove the handle, simply unscrew the screw with a screwdriver. Once the screw is removed, you should be able to pull the handle off of the faucet.

5.

Replace the washer.

The washer is a small rubber or plastic disc that creates a seal between the faucet and the handle. Over time, the washer can become worn or damaged, causing a leak. To replace the washer, simply remove the old washer and replace it with a new one.

6.

Reassemble the faucet.

Once you have replaced the washer, you can reassemble the faucet. To do this, simply insert the handle back into the faucet and tighten the screw. Then, screw the aerator back onto the end of the faucet.

7.

Turn on the water supply.

Once the faucet is reassembled, you can turn on the water supply. Check the faucet for leaks. If there are no leaks, then you have successfully fixed the leaky faucet.

If you are unable to fix the leaky faucet yourself, you can call a plumber to help you. However, fixing a leaky faucet is usually a relatively easy task that you can do yourself with a few basic tools.
