How To Install Water Line From Sink To Refrigerator
Installing a water line from your sink to your refrigerator is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few hours. By following these steps, you can ensure that your refrigerator has a constant supply of fresh, cold water.
Tools and Materials You'll Need:
- Compression fitting nut
- Compression sleeve
- Ferrule
- 1/4-inch copper tubing
- 1/4-inch compression nut
- 1/4-inch compression ring
- 1/4-inch push-fit connector
- 1/4-inch push-fit elbow
- 1/4-inch saddle valve
- Adjustable wrench
- Drill
- 1/4-inch drill bit
- Hammer
- Level
- Measuring tape
- Phillips screwdriver
- Safety glasses
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Turn off the water supply to your sink. This is typically done by closing the shut-off valve located under the sink.
2. Determine the location of the water line connection on your refrigerator. This is usually located on the back or bottom of the refrigerator.
3. Measure and cut the copper tubing to the desired length. The tubing should be long enough to reach from the water line connection on your refrigerator to the saddle valve.
4. Insert the ferrule onto the end of the copper tubing. The ferrule should be positioned about 1/2 inch from the end of the tubing.
5. Slide the compression sleeve onto the tubing, followed by the compression nut. Tighten the compression nut onto the ferrule using an adjustable wrench.
6. Drill a 1/4-inch hole in the cold water supply line under your sink. The hole should be located about 1/2 inch below the shut-off valve.
7. Insert the saddle valve into the hole and tighten it using a Phillips screwdriver.
8. Connect the copper tubing to the saddle valve using a 1/4-inch compression nut and compression ring.
9. Connect the other end of the copper tubing to the water line connection on your refrigerator using a 1/4-inch push-fit connector and elbow.
10. Turn on the water supply to your sink and check for leaks. If you find any leaks, tighten the connections until the leaks stop.
11. Once you are sure that there are no leaks, you can turn on the ice maker and water dispenser on your refrigerator.
