How to Fix a Chipped Sink

Sandpaper (120-grit and 220-grit)
Epoxy putty
Putty knife
Acetone or rubbing alcohol

Step 1: Clean the Area

Before you can repair the chip, you need to clean the area thoroughly. Use acetone or rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt, grease, or debris from the surface of the sink. Allow the area to dry completely.

Step 2: Sand the Area

Once the area is clean, use 120-grit sandpaper to sand the chipped area. Sand in a circular motion, taking care not to damage the surrounding surface. Once the chipped area is sanded, switch to 220-grit sandpaper and sand the area again to smooth it out.

Step 3: Apply Epoxy Putty

Mix a small amount of epoxy putty according to the manufacturer's instructions. Using a putty knife, apply the epoxy putty to the chipped area. Use your finger or a soft cloth to smooth out the putty and make it flush with the surface of the sink.

Step 4: Allow the Putty to Cure

Allow the epoxy putty to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions. This may take several hours or overnight. Once the putty is cured, it will be hard and durable.

Step 5: Sand and Polish the Area

Once the putty is cured, use 220-grit sandpaper to sand the repaired area until it is smooth. Then, use a soft cloth to polish the area with a metal polish or a car wax. This will help to protect the repaired area and make it shine.

Tips

If the chip is large, you may need to use a two-part epoxy adhesive instead of epoxy putty. Two-part epoxy adhesives are stronger and more durable than epoxy putty, but they require more time to cure.
If the chip is on a visible surface of the sink, you may want to use a color-matched epoxy putty or adhesive. This will help to make the repair less noticeable.
To prevent chips from occurring in the future, avoid using abrasive cleaners or sharp objects on the sink.
