Cut Hole Stainless Steel Sink

Installing a kitchen sink is an important part of a kitchen remodel. If you are replacing a kitchen sink, you may need to cut a hole in the countertop to accommodate the new sink. Cutting a hole in a stainless steel sink is not a difficult task, but it does require some special tools and techniques.

Tools and materials you will need:

Stainless steel sink
Jigsaw with a metal-cutting blade
Clamps
Ruler or measuring tape
Pencil
Safety glasses
Dust mask

Step 1: Safety first

Before you begin cutting, put on safety glasses and a dust mask. Stainless steel dust can be harmful to your lungs, so it is important to protect yourself.

Step 2: Measure and mark the hole

Use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the diameter of the sink hole. Mark the center of the hole on the countertop with a pencil.

Step 3: Clamp the sink in place

Place the sink upside down on the countertop and align the center mark with the center of the sink hole. Clamp the sink in place to secure it.

Step 4: Cut the hole

Insert a metal-cutting blade into a jigsaw. Slowly cut around the perimeter of the sink hole, following the line you drew with the pencil. Be sure to keep the jigsaw perpendicular to the countertop to avoid cutting the countertop.

Step 5: Remove the clamps and sink

Once you have cut the hole, remove the clamps and the sink. Check the edges of the hole to make sure they are smooth and free of any burrs.

Step 6: Install the sink

Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the perimeter of the sink hole. Place the sink in the hole and press down firmly to seat it. Remove any excess caulk with a damp cloth.

Step 7: Clean up

Use a vacuum cleaner to clean up any stainless steel dust or debris. Wipe down the countertop and the sink with a damp cloth to remove any remaining dust or fingerprints.
