Garbage Disposal Switch Under Sink
Garbage disposals are convenient kitchen appliances that can help to keep your sink clean and free of food waste. However, if the switch for your garbage disposal is not working properly, it can be a major inconvenience. In this article, we will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to replace a garbage disposal switch under the sink.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Before you begin, you will need to gather the following materials:
- New garbage disposal switch
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Electrical tape
- Wire strippers
Step 2: Turn Off the Power
Before you start working on the garbage disposal, it is important to turn off the power at the circuit breaker panel. This will help to prevent you from getting shocked.
Step 3: Disconnect the Old Switch
Once the power is off, you can begin disconnecting the old switch. Start by removing the two screws that are holding the switch in place. Then, carefully pull the switch out of the wall.
Step 4: Disconnect the Wires
Once the switch is out of the wall, you will need to disconnect the wires. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on the terminals, and then pull the wires off. Be careful not to touch the bare wires, as this could cause you to get shocked.
Step 5: Connect the New Switch
Now it is time to connect the new switch. Start by stripping about 1/2 inch of insulation off the end of each wire. Then, wrap the bare wire around the terminal screw on the new switch, and tighten the screw. Make sure that the wires are securely fastened, but do not overtighten the screws.
Step 6: Install the New Switch
Once the wires are connected, you can install the new switch in the wall. Simply push the switch into place, and then tighten the two screws that are holding it in place.
Step 7: Turn On the Power
Once the new switch is installed, you can turn the power back on at the circuit breaker panel. Then, test the switch to make sure that it is working properly.
