How to Attach a Pedestal Sink

Pedestal sinks are a popular option for bathrooms because they are relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and can be found in various styles to match any bathroom décor. Installing a pedestal sink requires few tools and can be completed in a few hours.

Materials You'll Need:

Pedestal sink
Faucet
P-trap
Supply lines
Wrench
Screwdriver
Caulk
Level

Step 1: Turn off the water supply.

Locate the water supply valves under the sink and turn them off. If there are no valves, you will need to turn off the main water supply to your home.

Step 2: Remove the old sink.

If there is an old sink, you will need to remove it before installing the new pedestal sink. Disconnect the water supply lines and drain the P-trap. Then, loosen the bolts that secure the sink to the wall and lift the sink off the pedestal.

Step 3: Install the pedestal sink.

Place the pedestal sink on the floor and level it using a level. Mark the location of the mounting holes on the wall. Then, drill pilot holes at the marked locations.

Insert the bolts into the pilot holes and tighten them until the sink is secure. Apply a bead of caulk around the base of the sink where it meets the pedestal.

Step 4: Install the faucet.

Attach the faucet to the sink according to the manufacturer's instructions. Tighten the nuts that secure the faucet to the sink until they are snug.

Step 5: Install the P-trap.

Connect the P-trap to the drainpipe coming from the sink. Tighten the nuts that secure the P-trap until they are snug.

Step 6: Connect the water supply lines.

Connect the water supply lines to the faucet. Tighten the nuts that secure the water supply lines until they are snug.

Step 7: Turn on the water supply.

Turn on the water supply valves under the sink and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the nuts that secure the water supply lines and/or the P-trap until the leaks stop.
