How To Fix The Sink Faucet

A dripping faucet is not only annoying, but it can also waste a lot of water. If you have a leaky faucet, there are a few things you can do to try to fix it yourself before calling a plumber. Here are the steps on how to fix a sink faucet:

1. Gather your tools

Before you start, you'll need to gather a few tools. You'll need a wrench, a screwdriver, and a pair of pliers. You may also need a new washer or O-ring, depending on the type of faucet you have.

2. Turn off the water supply

The first step is to turn off the water supply to the faucet. There are usually two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water.

3. Remove the aerator

The aerator is the small, screen-like attachment at the end of the faucet. It helps to mix air with the water, which creates a more forceful stream. To remove the aerator, unscrew it counterclockwise by hand. If you can't remove it by hand, you can use a wrench.

4. Remove the handle

Once the aerator is removed, you can remove the handle. There is usually a small screw holding the handle in place. Remove the screw and pull the handle straight up to remove it.

5. Remove the cartridge

The cartridge is the part of the faucet that controls the flow of water. To remove the cartridge, you'll need to use a wrench to loosen the packing nut. Once the packing nut is loose, you can pull the cartridge straight out of the faucet body.

6. Inspect the cartridge

Once you have the cartridge out, inspect it for any damage. If the cartridge is damaged, you'll need to replace it. You can find replacement cartridges at most hardware stores.

7. Reassemble the faucet

To reassemble the faucet, simply follow the steps in reverse order. First, insert the new cartridge into the faucet body. Then, tighten the packing nut. Next, replace the handle and secure it with the screw. Finally, screw the aerator back onto the end of the faucet.

8. Turn on the water supply

Once the faucet is reassembled, turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, you may need to tighten the packing nut further.
