How To Install Bathroom Sink Plumbing

Replacing a bathroom sink is not a difficult task, but it is important to follow the steps carefully to ensure a successful installation. Doing the installation by yourself can also save you some cash. Here are the steps on how to install bathroom sink plumbing:

Materials you'll need:

  • Bathroom Sink
  • Sink Drain
  • Sink Trap
  • Faucet
  • Water Supply Lines
  • Plumber's Putty
  • Teflon Tape
  • Adjustable Wrench
  • Slip-Joint Pliers
  • Basin Wrench

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1.

Turn off the water supply

to the sink. There should be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water.

2.

Disconnect the water supply lines

. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts that connect the water supply lines to the faucet. Be careful not to overtighten the nuts, as you could damage the lines.

3.

Disconnect the drain

. Place a bucket under the sink to catch any water that may drain out. Loosen the slip nuts that connect the drain to the sink and the trap. Remove the drain and the trap.

4.

Remove the old sink

. Use a putty knife to remove any old plumber's putty that is around the base of the sink. Carefully lift the sink out of the countertop.

5.

Install the new sink

. Apply a bead of plumber's putty around the base of the new sink. Carefully set the sink into the countertop. Tighten the mounting nuts until the sink is secure.

6.

Connect the drain

. Place the new drain into the sink and tighten the slip nuts. Connect the trap to the drain and tighten the slip nuts. Pour a cup of water down the drain to check for leaks.

7.

Connect the water supply lines

. Apply Teflon tape to the threads of the water supply lines. Connect the water supply lines to the faucet and tighten the nuts. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.

8.

Install the faucet

. Place the faucet in the sink and tighten the mounting nuts. Connect the water supply lines to the faucet and tighten the nuts. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.
