How To Install Drain In Bathroom Sink

Installing a drain in a bathroom sink is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few hours. However, it is important to follow the instructions carefully to avoid any leaks or damage to the sink.

Tools and materials you will need:

Adjustable wrench
Plumber's putty
Drain strainer
Slip joint pliers
New drain assembly
Teflon tape

Step 1: Remove the old drain

Place a bucket or bowl under the sink to catch any water that may leak out.
Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the drain assembly in place.
Remove the old drain assembly by pulling it straight up.
Clean the area around the drain hole with a damp cloth.

Step 2: Apply plumber's putty

Roll a small piece of plumber's putty into a snake-like shape.
Place the putty around the base of the new drain assembly.
Press the drain assembly into the drain hole.
Tighten the nuts on the drain assembly until they are snug.

Step 3: Install the drain strainer

Place the drain strainer over the drain assembly.
Tighten the screws on the strainer until it is secure.

Step 4: Install the slip joint pliers

Place the slip joint pliers on the tailpiece of the drain assembly.
Tighten the pliers until the tailpiece is snug against the drain pipe.

Step 5: Apply Teflon tape

Wrap Teflon tape around the threads of the drainpipe.
Start by wrapping the tape around the bottom of the threads and then continue to wrap it around the threads in a clockwise direction.
Wrap the tape tightly, but do not overlap it.

Step 6: Connect the drainpipe
