How To Install P Trap Sink
A P-trap is a U-shaped pipe that is used to trap water in a sink drain. This water creates a seal that prevents sewer gases from escaping into your home. P-traps are relatively easy to install, and you can do it yourself with a few basic tools.
Tools you will need:
- Adjustable wrench
- Pliers
- Plumber's putty
- New P-trap
- Bucket
Instructions:
- Place the bucket under the sink drain to catch any water that may leak out.
- Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the old P-trap in place. Once the nuts are loose, you can remove the old P-trap by hand.
- Apply a bead of plumber's putty to the threads of the new P-trap. This will help to create a watertight seal.
- Screw the new P-trap into place by hand. Once the P-trap is hand-tight, use the adjustable wrench to tighten it further.
- Connect the drain pipe to the P-trap. Tighten the nuts on the drain pipe by hand, and then use the pliers to tighten them further.
- Turn on the water and check for leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the nuts on the P-trap or drain pipe until the leaks stop.
Here are some additional tips for installing a P-trap:
- Make sure that the P-trap is the correct size for your sink drain. The P-trap should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the drain pipe.
- Do not overtighten the nuts on the P-trap or drain pipe. Overtightening can damage the nuts or the pipes.
- If you are having trouble getting the P-trap to fit, you may need to use a pipe cutter to trim the drain pipe.
