How To Install Pedestal Sink

A pedestal sink is an essential piece of any bathroom, providing both style and functionality. Installing a pedestal sink is a relatively simple process that can be completed in a few hours, even by a novice DIYer. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install a pedestal sink:

Tools and Materials:

  • Pedestal sink
  • Faucet
  • Pop-up drain assembly
  • Level
  • Plumber's putty
  • Wrench
  • Screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Measure and Mark the Drain Hole:

Locate the drain hole in the bottom of the sink and use a tape measure to mark the center of the hole. Transfer this mark to the countertop or vanity top where you plan to install the sink.

2. Install the Pop-Up Drain Assembly:

Apply a bead of plumber's putty around the base of the pop-up drain assembly and insert it into the drain hole from below. Tighten the nut on the underside of the sink to secure the drain.

3. Install the Faucet:

Apply plumber's putty to the base of the faucet and insert it into the faucet holes in the sink. Tighten the nuts on the underside of the sink to secure the faucet.

4. Level the Pedestal:

Place the pedestal on the floor and use a level to check if it is level. If not, adjust the leveling feet on the bottom of the pedestal until it is level.

5. Mark the Pedestal Position:

Center the pedestal under the sink and use a pencil to mark its outline on the floor.

6. Apply Plumber's Putty to the Pedestal:

Apply a thick bead of plumber's putty around the top edge of the pedestal, where it will meet the underside of the sink.

7. Set the Sink on the Pedestal:

Carefully lift the sink and set it on the pedestal, aligning it with the marks you made earlier. Press down firmly to seal the putty.

8. Secure the Sink:

Use the supplied mounting brackets or screws to secure the sink to the pedestal. Tighten them until the sink is firmly in place.

9. Connect the Water Supply Lines:

Connect the hot and cold water supply lines to the faucet using the supplied hoses or connectors. Tighten the connections securely.

10. Test the Sink:

Turn on the water supply and check for any leaks around the faucet, drain, or base of the pedestal. If there are any leaks, tighten the connections as needed.

Additional Tips:

  • Use a level to ensure that the sink and pedestal are level both horizontally and vertically.
  • Apply a generous amount of plumber's putty to seal all connections.
  • Tighten all connections securely, but avoid overtightening.
  • If you encounter any difficulties, consult a licensed plumber for assistance.
