Materials You'll Need

  • 1/4-inch copper tubing
  • Compression fittings
  • Drill
  • 1/4-inch drill bit
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Pipe cutter
  • Soldering iron
  • Solder
  • Flux
  • Tape measure
  • Level

Step 1: Measure and Cut the Copper Tubing

Measure the distance from the water supply valve on your sink to the back of your refrigerator. Cut the copper tubing to this length, using a pipe cutter.

Step 2: Install the Compression Fittings

Slide a compression fitting onto each end of the copper tubing. Tighten the compression nuts onto the fittings, using an adjustable wrench.

Step 3: Drill a Hole in the Sink

Locate a spot on the sink where you want to install the water line. Drill a 1/4-inch hole in the sink at this location.

Step 4: Install the Water Supply Valve

Insert the water supply valve into the hole in the sink. Tighten the valve onto the sink, using an adjustable wrench.

Step 5: Connect the Copper Tubing to the Water Supply Valve

Connect one end of the copper tubing to the water supply valve. Tighten the compression nut onto the valve, using an adjustable wrench.

Step 6: Solder the Copper Tubing to the Refrigerator

Apply flux to the end of the copper tubing that will be connected to the refrigerator. Insert the end of the tubing into the refrigerator's water inlet valve. Solder the tubing to the valve, using a soldering iron and solder.

Step 7: Turn on the Water Supply

Turn on the water supply valve at the sink. Check for leaks at all of the connections.

Step 8: Level the Refrigerator

Use a level to ensure that the refrigerator is level. Adjust the leveling legs on the refrigerator as necessary.
