How To Repair Bathroom Sink Faucet

A leaking faucet is a common plumbing problem that can waste a lot of water and increase your water bill. If you have a leaky bathroom sink faucet, you can repair it yourself with a few simple tools and materials. Here are the steps on how to repair a bathroom sink faucet:

1. Gather your tools and materials.

You will need the following tools and materials to repair a bathroom sink faucet:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Replacement faucet washer
  • Replacement faucet seat
  • Plumber's putty
  • Petroleum jelly

2. Turn off the water supply.

Before you start working on the faucet, you need to turn off the water supply. There are usually two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water.

3. Remove the faucet handle.

Once the water is turned off, you can remove the faucet handle. Most faucet handles are held in place by a screw. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw and then pull the handle straight up to remove it.

4. Remove the faucet stem.

Once the handle is removed, you can remove the faucet stem. The faucet stem is the part of the faucet that turns the water on and off. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the faucet stem out of the faucet body.

5. Replace the faucet washer.

The faucet washer is a small rubber washer that sits on the faucet seat. When the faucet is turned on, the washer creates a seal against the seat to stop the water from leaking. Over time, the faucet washer can wear out and cause the faucet to leak. To replace the faucet washer, simply remove the old washer and replace it with a new one.

6. Replace the faucet seat.

If the faucet washer is worn out, the faucet seat may also be damaged. The faucet seat is the part of the faucet that the washer seals against. To replace the faucet seat, use a wrench to remove the old seat and then screw in a new one.

7. Reassemble the faucet.

Once the faucet washer and seat have been replaced, you can reassemble the faucet. Insert the faucet stem back into the faucet body and then screw on the faucet handle. Turn the water supply back on and check for leaks.

8. If the faucet is still leaking, you may need to replace the O-rings.

The O-rings are small rubber rings that create a seal between the faucet body and the spout. Over time, the O-rings can wear out and cause the faucet to leak. To replace the O-rings, simply remove the old O-rings and replace them with new ones.

9. If the faucet is still leaking, you may need to call a plumber.

If you have tried all of the above steps and the faucet is still leaking, you may need to call a plumber. The plumber will be able to diagnose the problem and make the necessary repairs.
