How To Replace A Bathroom Sink

Replacing a bathroom sink is a relatively simple plumbing project that can be completed in a few hours. By following these steps, you can save yourself the cost of hiring a plumber.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Before you begin, you will need to gather the following materials:

New bathroom sink
Faucet
Pop-up drain assembly
Pliers
Wrench
Putty knife
Silicone caulk

Step 2: Turn Off the Water Supply

The first step is to turn off the water supply to the sink. There will be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn both valves clockwise until they are completely closed.

Step 3: Disconnect the Water Lines

Once the water supply is turned off, you can disconnect the water lines from the faucet. Use pliers to loosen the nuts that hold the lines in place. Be careful not to overtighten the nuts, as you could damage the lines.

Step 4: Remove the Old Sink

Once the water lines are disconnected, you can remove the old sink. Use a putty knife to loosen the caulk around the sink. Then, carefully lift the sink up and out of the countertop.

Step 5: Install the New Sink

Place the new sink in the countertop and center it. Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the edge of the sink. Then, carefully lower the sink into place. Press down on the sink to ensure that it is securely seated.

Step 6: Connect the Water Lines

Once the sink is in place, you can connect the water lines to the faucet. Use pliers to tighten the nuts that hold the lines in place. Be sure to tighten the nuts securely, but do not overtighten them.

Step 7: Install the Pop-Up Drain Assembly

The pop-up drain assembly is the part that allows you to open and close the drain. To install the pop-up drain assembly, simply insert it into the drain hole in the sink. Then, tighten the nut that holds the assembly in place.

Step 8: Turn On the Water Supply

Once the pop-up drain assembly is installed, you can turn on the water supply. Check for leaks around the sink and faucet. If you find any leaks, tighten the nuts that hold the water lines and the pop-up drain assembly in place.
