How To Replace A Sink Drain

Replacing a sink drain is easy to do if you have the right tools and materials. You should be able to complete the job in about 30 minutes, which includes removing the old drain, cleaning the area, and installing the new drain.

Here are the tools and materials you will need:

Adjustable wrench
Phillips head screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver
Bucket
Rags
New sink drain
Plumber's putty
Teflon tape

Step 1: Turn off the water supply to the sink. There are two shut-off valves under the sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water supply. Step 2: Place a bucket under the sink to catch any water that may leak out. Step 3: Loosen the nuts that hold the drain in place. There are two nuts, one on the top of the sink and one on the bottom. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts. Step 4: Remove the old drain. Once the nuts are loose, you can remove the old drain by pulling it straight up. Step 5: Clean the area where the old drain was installed. Use a rag to wipe away any old plumber's putty or sealant. Step 6: Apply a bead of plumber's putty to the rim of the new drain. The plumber's putty will help to create a watertight seal. Step 7: Insert the new drain into the sinkhole. Make sure that the plumber's putty is evenly distributed around the rim of the drain. Step 8: Tighten the nuts that hold the drain in place. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts. Do not overtighten the nuts, or you may damage the sink. Step 9: Turn on the water supply to the sink. Check for leaks around the drain. If there are any leaks, tighten the nuts further.
