How To Replace A Sink Faucet

Replacing a sink faucet is a relatively simple plumbing repair that can be completed in a few hours. By following these steps, you can save yourself the cost of hiring a plumber.

Step 1: Turn off the water supply.

There are usually two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to shut off the water supply.

Step 2: Disconnect the old faucet.

Using a wrench, loosen the nuts that hold the faucet to the sink. There will be two nuts, one on each side of the faucet. Once the nuts are loose, you can pull the faucet away from the sink.

Step 3: Remove the old faucet handles.

Most faucet handles are held in place by a screw. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw and then pull the handle off the faucet.

Step 4: Remove the old faucet cartridge.

The faucet cartridge is located inside the faucet body. To remove it, use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds it in place. Once the nut is loose, you can pull the cartridge out of the faucet body.

Step 5: Install the new faucet cartridge.

Insert the new faucet cartridge into the faucet body. Make sure that the cartridge is properly aligned and then tighten the nut to hold it in place.

Step 6: Install the new faucet handles.

Slide the new faucet handles onto the faucet. Secure the handles in place with the screws.

Step 7: Connect the new faucet.

Position the new faucet over the sink holes. Insert the mounting nuts through the holes and tighten them with a wrench. Make sure that the faucet is securely attached to the sink.

Step 8: Turn on the water supply.

Turn the shut-off valves counterclockwise to turn on the water supply. Check the faucet for leaks and tighten any loose connections if necessary.
