How To Replace Sink Disposal

A garbage disposal is a convenient appliance that can make kitchen cleanup a breeze. But if your disposal is old or damaged, it may need to be replaced. Replacing a sink disposal is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few hours. Here are the steps on how to replace a sink disposal:

1. Gather your tools and materials. You will need the following tools and materials to replace your sink disposal:

New sink disposal
Wrench
Pliers
Screwdriver
Putty knife
Bucket
Plumber's putty

2. Turn off the power to the disposal. This can be done by flipping the breaker that powers the disposal or by unplugging the disposal from the outlet.

3. Turn off the water supply to the sink. This can be done by closing the valves under the sink.

4. Disconnect the drain line from the disposal. Use a wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the drain line in place. Once the nuts are loose, you can pull the drain line off of the disposal.

5. Disconnect the electrical wires from the disposal. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws that hold the electrical wires in place. Once the screws are loose, you can pull the electrical wires off of the disposal.

6. Remove the old disposal. Use a wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the disposal in place. Once the nuts are loose, you can pull the disposal out of the sink.

7. Install the new disposal. Place the new disposal in the sink and line it up with the drain hole. Use a wrench to tighten the nuts that hold the disposal in place. Once the nuts are tight, you can connect the electrical wires and the drain line to the disposal.

8. Turn on the power to the disposal and the water supply to the sink. Test the disposal by running water into the sink and turning on the disposal. The disposal should run smoothly and quietly.

9. Clean up. Once the disposal is installed and working properly, clean up any debris that may have been created during the installation process.
