How To Take Sink Drain Out

A clogged sink drain is a common household problem that can be easily fixed with a few simple tools. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can quickly and easily remove the drain and unclog it.

1. Gather Your Tools

Before you start, you'll need to gather a few tools:

  • A bucket
  • A wrench
  • A pair of pliers
  • A screwdriver
  • A flashlight (optional)

2. Shut Off the Water Supply

Before you start working on the drain, it's important to shut off the water supply to the sink. This will prevent water from flowing into the sink and making a mess.

To shut off the water supply, simply locate the shut-off valves under the sink and turn them clockwise until they are completely closed.

3. Place a Bucket Under the Drain

Once the water supply is shut off, place a bucket under the drain to catch any water that may leak out when you remove the drain.

4. Remove the Drain Stopper

The drain stopper is the small, round piece of metal or plastic that covers the drain hole. To remove the drain stopper, simply use your fingers to pull it out.

5. Remove the Drain Nut

The drain nut is the large, round nut that holds the drain in place. To remove the drain nut, use a wrench to loosen it and then turn it counterclockwise until it is completely removed.

6. Remove the Drain

Once the drain nut is removed, you can simply pull the drain out of the sink.

7. Unclog the Drain

Once the drain is out, you can unclog it by using a drain snake or a chemical drain cleaner. If you are using a drain snake, simply insert it into the drain and turn the handle until the clog is cleared.

If you are using a chemical drain cleaner, simply follow the instructions on the bottle.

8. Reinstall the Drain

Once the drain is unclogged, you can reinstall it by following the steps in reverse order.

  1. Insert the drain into the sink.
  2. Tighten the drain nut by hand.
  3. Use a wrench to tighten the drain nut until it is snug.
  4. Insert the drain stopper.
  5. Turn on the water supply.
