How To Unscrew A Sink Drain

A clogged sink drain is a common plumbing problem that can be easily fixed with a few simple tools. In most cases, you can unscrew the sink drain by hand, but if it is particularly stubborn, you may need to use a wrench or pliers.

Here are the steps on how to unscrew a sink drain:

Locate the drain stopper. The drain stopper is usually located in the center of the sink drain. It is typically made of metal or plastic and has a small hole in the center.
Remove the drain stopper. To remove the drain stopper, simply pull it up and out of the drain. If the drain stopper is stuck, you may need to use a pair of pliers to gently pry it loose.
Look for the drain flange. The drain flange is the metal ring that is located around the drain opening. It is usually held in place by several screws.
Remove the screws. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that are holding the drain flange in place. Be careful not to drop the screws down the drain.
Remove the drain flange. Once the screws are removed, you can lift the drain flange off of the sink drain. Be careful not to spill any water that may be trapped in the drain.
Unscrew the drain pipe. The drain pipe is the black or gray pipe that is connected to the drain flange. To unscrew the drain pipe, simply turn it counterclockwise by hand. If the drain pipe is particularly stubborn, you may need to use a wrench or pliers to loosen it.
