Washing Machine Draining Into Sink

If your washing machine is draining into the sink, it can be a frustrating and messy problem. There are a few possible causes for this issue, and the solution will depend on the underlying cause.

One possible cause is a clogged drain hose. The drain hose is the hose that carries the water from the washing machine to the drainpipe. If the drain hose is clogged, the water will back up and overflow into the sink.

To check if the drain hose is clogged, disconnect the hose from the washing machine and the drainpipe. Then, pour a bucket of water down the hose. If the water drains slowly or not at all, the hose is clogged.

To clean a clogged drain hose, you can use a drain snake or a wet/dry vacuum. If you use a drain snake, insert the snake into the hose and push it through until it reaches the clog. Then, pull the snake back out while turning the handle to break up the clog.

If you use a wet/dry vacuum, insert the vacuum hose into the hose and turn on the vacuum. The vacuum will suck out the clog.

Another possible cause of a washing machine draining into the sink is a faulty drain pump. The drain pump is the pump that pumps the water out of the washing machine. If the drain pump is faulty, it will not be able to pump the water out of the machine, and the water will back up and overflow into the sink.

To check if the drain pump is faulty, listen for the sound of the pump running when the washing machine is draining. If you do not hear the sound of the pump running, the pump may be faulty.

To replace a faulty drain pump, you will need to disconnect the washing machine from the power source and the water supply. Then, locate the drain pump and remove the bolts that hold it in place. Once the bolts are removed, you can pull the pump out of the machine.

To install the new drain pump, insert the pump into the machine and secure it with the bolts. Then, reconnect the washing machine to the power source and the water supply.
