Water Not Draining From Sink

A clogged sink is a common plumbing problem that can be frustrating to deal with. When water is not draining from your sink, it can be difficult to clean dishes, wash your hands, or even brush your teeth. If you are experiencing this problem, there are a few things you can do to try to fix it yourself before calling a plumber.

Clearing the Drain Stopper

The first thing you should check is the drain stopper. If the stopper is closed, water will not be able to drain from the sink. Make sure that the stopper is open by pulling it up or turning it counterclockwise.

Cleaning the P-Trap

The P-trap is a U-shaped pipe that is located under the sink. It helps to trap debris and prevent it from entering the drainpipe. Over time, the P-trap can become clogged with hair, soap scum, and other debris. To clean the P-trap, you will need to:

Place a bucket under the P-trap to catch any water that may leak out.
Loosen the nuts that hold the P-trap in place.
Remove the P-trap and clean out any debris.
Reassemble the P-trap and tighten the nuts.

Clearing the Drainpipe

If the drain stopper and P-trap are not clogged, the problem may be in the drainpipe. To clear the drainpipe, you can use a drain snake or a chemical drain cleaner. If you are using a drain snake, insert the snake into the drainpipe and turn the handle to feed the snake into the pipe. Once the snake reaches the clog, turn the handle in the opposite direction to remove the clog.

If you are using a chemical drain cleaner, follow the directions on the bottle. Be sure to wear gloves and eye protection when using a chemical drain cleaner.

Calling a Plumber

If you have tried all of the above methods and you are still unable to clear the clog, you may need to call a plumber. A plumber can use a variety of tools and techniques to clear the clog and get your sink draining again.
